Dr. John Ostergren joined Smiths Group in January 2022 as Chief Sustainability Officer, leading the Group’s Sustainability at Smiths strategy and HSE Operations. He assumed additional responsibility overseeing the Group’s Government Relations team in January 2023 and serves as executive sponsor for the Smiths Group Foundation, launched in 2023. With a PhD in Geochemistry and a JD from Stanford University, Dr. Ostergren applies more than 20 years of experience across environmental science, law, policy and operations to support teams delivering sustainable value. Prior to joining Smiths Group, he served as Global Director for EHS and Associate General Counsel for Supply Chain at 3M Company, and Senior Legal Director at Zymergen, a bio-manufacturing startup.
