Waterwhelm

Waterwhelm has developed a Forward Osmosis (FO) technology for wastewater treatment and desalination, validated through its pilot plant at a major Wastewater Treatment Works in Edinburgh. The technology operates at low pressures (2-4 bar) and is powered by waste heat from industrial processes. Therefore, in comparison with reverse osmosis (RO), our FO technology uses 80% less electricity and 35% less CAPEX, realising a 79% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The technology will enable sustainable and cost-effective reuse of wastewater and desalination for various purposes including municipal water supply and industrial water supply in power plants, hydrogen generation and food & drink production facilities.
