Zakia Rashid
Zakia Rashid is founder of MotherOceanBlue - an ocean literacy, education and conservation organisation working at the intersection of science, business and the next generation of climate thinkers.
MotherOceanBlue operates across three pillars: the Ocean Academy, a 10-session science programme for students aged 13-24 in secondary schools, sixth forms, FE colleges and universities; a five-stage corporate partnership model from corporate workshops to funding verified marine research; and the Funding Hub, connecting CSR budgets to independent ocean science.
The ocean covers 71% of our planet — the world's largest carbon sink, producing half our oxygen and absorbing 90% of excess heat from climate change. MotherOceanBlue addresses a gap that is simultaneously an educational failure, a scientific funding crisis and a corporate blind spot.
At Reset Connect, Zakia represents the Ocean: the one part of the climate conversation that the wider sustainability industry has persistently underweighted. Every corporate sustainability strategy that does not account for ocean health is, by definition, incomplete.
Zakia is speaking Wednesday 24 June, 10:30-11:00 at the Nature & Food Systems Hub
