Thomas Viegas
Thomas is an experienced professional with deep expertise in environmental economics, finance and policymaking, shaped by roles at the Bank of England, HM Treasury, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and Aviva.
He is currently Group Nature Lead at Aviva, where he leads the development and delivery of the firm’s nature strategy, ambition, and actions. This includes prioritising and coordinating nature-related activity across investments, insurance and operations. He also serves as Co-Chair of the UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance Nature Working Group, is an independent member of the UK Office for Environmental Protection College of Experts and sits on the Accounting for Sustainability Nature Advisory Group.
Previously, Thomas was Head of Capacity Building and Regulatory Engagement at TNFD. At the Bank of England, he led its initial approach to nature-related financial risks and co-authored key NGFS and Sustainable Insurance Forum publications. He also advised on the Dasgupta Review and served on the UK Statistics Authority NSCASE.
