Samantha Gonsalves Wetherell - Oxford Net Zero

Samantha Gonsalves Wetherell

Youth Advisory Board Representative, Oxford Net Zero
Samantha is an internationally recognized climate justice advocate and international climate policy practitioner working at the intersection of climate information disclosure, trade, and environmental policy. A lifelong desert dweller with a passion for justice, she has spent the last half a decade advocating for environmental and social justice through research, political activism, and advisory work with universities, local governments, and NGOs. In these capacities, Samantha has leveraged her knowledge of finance, economics, and justice to spearhead campaigns for more equitable local energy policy, lead statewide energy commissioner outreach work, head her local university's Responsible Sourcing and Investment Committee, and research the value of climate activism as a socio-political solution to climate change.

Currently, Samantha is serving as the North American representative for the Oxford Net Zero Youth Advisory Board, where she has assisted in creating guidelines for businesses on how to pursue an equitable and just transition alongside the British Standards Institute. Additionally, Samantha is pursuing her MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise, and the Environment at the University of Oxford and is working as a trade finance researcher in collaboration with the UNEP-FI. Through these various roles, she aims to facilitate cross-sector collaboration, particularly in public-private partnerships, to develop demand-side solutions for the green transition.
