Safia Gilder-Hodgson
Safia has played a key role in shaping the Western Forest from the outset, leading the bid development and working closely with partners across the region to secure £7.5 million to kickstart delivery. She continues to nurture the cross‑sector and cross‑boundary partnerships that underpin its bold approach to nature recovery. Previously at the Forest of Avon (one of England’s Community Forests), Safia brings extensive experience in national woodland partnership working, stakeholder engagement and strategic development. She works closely with local authorities, landowners, communities and national partners to drive ambitious, collaborative approaches to nature recovery, climate resilience and access to nature. Collaboration has been central to the Western Forest from day one, and Safia continues to champion a partnership‑led approach as the programme moves into delivery.
Originally from the Cotswolds and now based in Bristol, Safia has a deep connection to the Western Forest landscapes and is passionate about creating a national forest that connects and enhances woodland, supports regional growth, and champions the people and communities who care for and enjoy these spaces
