Matilda Becker

Strategic Partnerships Manager, Oxford Net Zero
Matilda Becker is the Strategic Partnerships Manager and a Research Fellow at Oxford Net Zero. Matilda’s role involves leading research in partnership with policymakers, civil society leaders, businesses, and standards bodies, to accelerate net zero integrity and accountability at the international and organisational levels.

Matilda’s main interests lay in working within networks of businesses and academics to realise meaningful and sustainable solutions to issues affecting communities and environment at the local and global scales. At present, her research and interests include:
- Scaling up the just transition, as part of the “Unlocking the Power of Youth” project funded by ACCESS (Advancing Capacity for Climate and Social Science);- Empowering companies to affect change in their spheres of influence, as outlined in the (2024) paper “Is impact out of scope? A call for innovation in climate standards to inspire action across companies’ Spheres of Influence”;Ensuring the net-zero transition happens with integrity and urgency, and mapping progress within the voluntary net zero governance landscape towards this;- Establishing mechanisms to support local and small sports clubs to decarbonise, and their unique leverage in communities to advocate for inclusive net-zero transitions.

Matilda has an academic and policy background, previously working for the business and academic member organisation Cambridge Ahead. Matilda completed her DPhil in Geography and Environment at the University of Oxford in 2021. Her research explored the expansion of mineral resource development in Arctic Canada, and assessed the impacts of engagement mechanisms on public trust and support for resource development. Matilda also holds an MSc in Water, Science, Policy and Management, also from the University of Oxford.
