Dr. Marianna Muravyeva brings over two decades of dedicated research and policy engagement across international arenas, shaping the discourse on human rights, gender equality, and legal frameworks. Her illustrious career spans roles as a researcher, trainer, and professor, fostering profound impacts within academic circles and beyond.

Since 1996, Dr. Muravyeva has collaborated extensively with public and voluntary sector organizations, including prominent roles with the UNDP in Central Asia and as a national expert with the Council of Europe.

Central to Dr. Muravyeva’s research agenda is a deep commitment to advancing human rights, particularly focusing on women’s rights, gender mainstreaming, and combating gender-based violence. Her expertise extends to specialized areas such as violence against women and family violence, underpinned by additional qualifications from the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights.
In the realm of academia, Dr. Muravyeva currently leads the Post-Soviet Legal Choices network at the University of Helsinki, where she imparts knowledge through courses like Gender and Law and supervises a diverse cohort of PhD students. Many of her mentees have gone on to influential roles within international organizations, underscoring her enduring influence in shaping global policy.
