Kavita Hansla
Kavita Hansla (@kavitalks) is an award-winning spoken word artist and keynote speaker who brings complex ideas to life through razor-sharp wordplay, vivid imagery and compelling stage presence, turning them into accessible, memorable performance.
Before stepping into performance, she spent eight years in the UK Civil Service, including as a Senior Policy Advisor on decarbonisation policy. This gave her fluency in both the technical language of systems and the human experience. In 2017, she led the UK Government’s first independent poetry project, commissioned by then Head of the Civil Service Sir Jeremy Heywood and shared in over 100 countries.
In 2025, she made the top 3% shortlist of the acclaimed Bridport Prize, won the Chiltern Arts Competition, named Best Poet & Spoken Word Artist at the Mainstream UK and was recognised as “One to Watch” among the UK’s rising spoken word voices. Fitting for someone whose name means poetry in Hindi.
Kavita has performed at over 200 venues nationwide, including Bush Theatre, Somerset House and Rich Mix, and completed a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe run with her debut solo show “The Poem Called Kavita”.
People don't move because they're told to. They move when the language reaches them.
