Hans Chan

Hans Chan (DPhil, MSci, MRSC) is currently the CTO and co-founder of Matoha Instrumentation Ltd. (UK), a green-tech company manufacturing and selling AI-powered infrared spectroscopic scanners that can instantly identify and report the material composition of textiles, plastics and carpets. Matoha’s multiple patented technologies are manufactured in London - which go on to unlock affordable waste sorting for hundreds of recyclers worldwide (in 50+ countries) and enable the diversion of garments and plastics from landfill and incineration, creating a more circular economy.

Hans completed his DPhil in quantum computing at the University of Oxford in 2024, supported by an Oxford-Croucher Scholarship (2020-2023). He has received numerous accolades and awards, including being named on the Forbes 30 under 30 (2025) list and awards from the British Science Association, Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, the Institute of Physics, Amazon, and McKinsey. He continues to engage with sustainability and scientific communities as an invited speaker at various events in Africa, Asia and Europe.
