I started my career in transport and fleet in 1997, having moved from the social care sector. Starting at the ground as a class C driver with an agency. I joined Londis in 1998 where I spent the next 16 years progressing from driving, through yard management, warehouse liaison, and transport management before spending a year growing the return load logistics opportunities and finally taking up the role of National Fleet Manager, during this time moving from Hampshire to West Yorkshire before finally settling in Northamptonshire where I’ve been for the last 14 years with my wife and 4 children.
I joined Ocado in 2014 in a new role, focussing on our team of 9 technicians, and driving focus into the HGV fleet, which, up to that point, had really been a side line for a van centric business. I have spent the last 11 years growing that team of 9 techs to a team of 31 across 22 sites investing in their training and growing the scope of works they can complete to manage costs and improve VOR time, at the same time we’ve changed the specification of the HGV fleet, improving the safety features and fuel efficiency of the fleet whilst keeping the driver at the forefront of everything we do.
Since 2018 I have started the transition of the HGV fleet away from diesel towards biomethane as a stepping stone ahead of electrification, in 2023 I introduced our first solar/battery powered refrigeration units for our double deck trailers by the end of this year we’ll have 57 on the fleet and they’re all a meter longer which allows us to run less trailers per day, further reducing road miles. For the last 12 months I've taken on the Senior Fleet Operations Manager role, accountable for managing the overall operational requirements of 3000 home delivery vans, 450 HGV assets and 140 micromobility assets in our Zoom immediacy operation.
