Ed Whiting

Chief Executive , Leeds City Council

I was born and grew up in Leeds, and am proud to be our City Council’s Chief Executive. Before moving to LCC I led a joint unit in two Government departments working on local economic growth. I was also Wellcome’s Director of Strategy, and led the creation of a new mission to support science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone. Before Wellcome I worked in a number of UK Government Departments with regular secondments outside Government, in roles across global health, financial and public services.

Outside work, I have been an elected member of the RSA's Fellowship Council, Covid vaccinator, and in 2011 started an arts crowdfunding website. I also play drums in a band (link below).
