Ben Smith
Ben Smith is an award-winning environmental consultant with 25 years’ experience delivering consultancy projects for public and private sector clients in the UK, Europe and Australia. For the last decade Ben’s clients have predominantly been local and city government administrations and proponents of large development masterplans. He has led work in over twenty global cities, focussed on energy efficiency, carbon reduction and renewable energy feasibility, sustainable waste management, climate change adaptation, urban resilience, smart technology and environmental and sustainability strategy.
Ben acted as a strategy partner to 100 Resilient Cities over six years, supporting the development of urban resilience strategies in several cities including London and is a co-author of the UNISDR Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities that has now been used in more than 100 cities. Ben acted as partnership director for Arup’s long-standing partnership with C40 Cities for six years and directed for our cities focussed work with WWF. He was a global judge for the 2019 Climathon, and for WWF’s One Planet Cities Challenge. He sats on the UKRI Climate Resilience Steering Group and was a commissioner for the WEF BiodiverCities2030 initiative.
Ben is also a volunteer Founding Trustee of the National Park City Foundation.
Ben now leads Arup’s Climate and Sustainability (Environmental) business in London.
