The Energy Network of the Future: Solutions for Reaching Net-Zero
As we electrify our economy and seek to meet the Clean Power 2030 and Net Zero targets, our power grids are undergoing a major transformation. Record levels of investment will be needed to connect wind, solar and other low carbon generation technologies to where the power is needed. At a local level, power grids need to cope with the rise of EVs and heat pumps. Meanwhile, data centres are adding to the demand for new grid connections. Reforms are underway to build a ‘smarter’ grid that incorporates more demand side response and flexibility and re-prioritise the connections queue. Recent incidents, like the power cuts in Spain and Portugal, have highlighted the importance of resilience of our power systems for modern economies. So how do we transform our power grids to enable Net Zero, whilst keeping bills down and the lights on?
