The Zayed Sustainability Prize: Transforming Lives and Driving Sustainable Development Around the World
The US$3 million global award scales impact of winners in Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools categories.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize, bronze sponsor at Reset Connect London, is the UAE’s pioneering award for recognising excellence in sustainability.
The Prize was established in 2008 to honour the humanitarian and sustainability legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father. Since then, the Prize has evolved into an international sustainability award that has, over the last 14 years, positively transformed the lives of more than 370 million people worldwide through its winners’ solutions.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize addresses global challenges, engages the younger generation, and empowers vulnerable communities with access to clean energy, safe drinking water, nutritious food, and more, while also contributing to the UAE’s longstanding track record of adopting and promoting clean energy and sustainable development.
The Prize’s five categories address the increasingly complex and growing set of development challenges the world faces today. Small-to-medium sized enterprises and non-profit organisations can submit entries in one of the four categories of Health, Food, Energy, or Water. Their solutions must demonstrate that they are improving access to essential products or services and have a long-term vision for improved living and working conditions.
High school students can submit entries in the Global High Schools category. These student-led proposals must be based on one or more of the four sustainability sectors and must demonstrate how they will enhance their school or local community.
The Prize’s US$3 million annual fund rewards winners US$600,000 in each category. The Global High Schools category is split into six world regions, with each winning school claiming up to US$100,000 to start or further expand their project. The six world regions of the Global High Schools category are The Americas, Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia & Pacific.
We invite all sustainability pioneers who are leveraging technological innovations to drive a more sustainable world to apply today for the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize. Nonprofit organisations, small and medium sized enterprises, and high schools with impactful, innovative and inspiring sustainable solutions across the categories of Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools, can submit their entries until July 6, 2022.
Winners will be announced at the 2023 Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony on January 16th 2022 as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).
