The North of the UK is facing increasingly severe flood risks due to climate change, from heavy rainfall and river surges to rising seas and overwhelmed urban drainage systems. Addressing these challenges demands close collaboration between local councils, flood management groups, businesses, residents and long-term regional investors.

This panel explores how communities and institutions can work together to strengthen defences, improve planning and develop resilient infrastructure while protecting homes, commercial assets and historic sites. Alongside practical measures on the ground, the discussion will examine the growing role of nature-based solutions, place-based investment and the integration of biodiversity and resilience considerations into wider regional strategies.

Expect insights on funding models, innovative technologies and coordinated approaches that align with LNRS objectives. The session will also consider how regional investment partnerships and long-term capital can help scale nature recovery while delivering positive economic, environmental and community outcomes—ensuring the North can adapt to a wetter, more unpredictable future.
