Confused, Cautious and Checked Out
Low engagement with sustainable investment isn’t a sustainability problem but a failure of financial capability, communication and trust.
Most people in the UK don’t understand basic concepts of risk and reward, default to holding cash and are paralysed by fear rather than informed by choice.
At the same time that the financial services industry continues to speak a language that actively excludes the people it claims to serve with jargon heavy explanations and uninspiring engagement.
This session takes a look at the scale of the challenge, focusing on research into UK consumer sentiment on investing, and aims to look at what can be done; by employers, by investment providers, advisers, industry bodies, the regulator and more to fix how people understand money, perceive risk and emotionally connect with decisions about their future.
How do we help people, not necessarily to choose green, but to feel confident enough to choose at all.
