Cities, Communities & Nature

The growth of plastic pollution is now three times faster than fossil fuels were at their peak, creating an escalating health and ecological emergency. This panel will explore the UK-wide impact of plastic waste, from our rivers to our cities and coasts and the emerging evidence linking plastic exposure to human health risks.

We will examine the global push for a binding Plastic Treaty and the policy measures the UK needs at both local and national levels. A key focus will be the transition away from single-use packaging in the food and consumer products industries: what it means for businesses, how reuse and refill systems can scale and the role of regulation in accelerating change.

The discussion will spotlight community-led cleanups, innovative circular business models and practical pathways for nationwide action. Panelists will share insights on how the UK can shift from a throwaway culture to a resilient, low-waste future.
