Transforming The Built Environment
Using work experience and apprenticeships to transform young people, businesses and the construction and real estate industry.
As a well established industry, real estate and construction has struggled to move forward with the times and at the pace and rapid rate that society is changing. Many people from various dispositions and underrepresented backgrounds fail to find opportunities of entrance to the industry without an inside connection. This causes the industry to be stagnant and create spaces and environments that are no longer fit for purpose or reflective of society, companies lacking in productive and functional innovation and attractiveness to attain and retain talent, and young people simply just being uninspired about having a career in the sector.
This session will explore how simple structures such as work experience and apprenticeships can help to support the modernisation and progression of the industry, improve and benefit businesses and inspire young people from all backgrounds to gain a real foothold into the industry. However, this requires cooperation and support from everyone.
This session will help listeners to understand how:
-
The sector can be bolstered to become more inclusive and representative of the communities that it serves,
-
Companies and business owners can engage in the social environment around them, and how this can in turn enrich their business, their people (staff) and aid their business goals, and
-
Young people can empower themselves to learn how to get a step ahead of the competition, embark on the journey to access the industry and take charge of opportunities that lay ahead, carving their own path.
