MISSION

The built environment and the systems used to monitor and manage it are fragmented and increasingly complex. Yet indoor air quality (IAQ) can be significantly poorer than outdoor air quality, with implications for residents’ health and wellbeing, building performance and asset value, NHS costs, the UK’s net-zero ambitions, and the wider economy.

Despite growing awareness of these impacts—and the existence of established standards and policy frameworks for outdoor air quality—there is currently no equivalent, comprehensive standard or policy framework for residential indoor air quality.

We have established mechanisms for assessing the energy performance of our homes, such as the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), with the Home Energy Model (HEM) set to play an increasingly important role. So why is there no equivalent framework for the quality of the air we breathe indoors?

ACT-Now! seeks to address this gap. In collaboration with the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB), the initiative aims to bring together the evidence, expertise and stakeholder engagement needed to establish a robust foundation for action and help shape a coherent policy and standards framework for residential indoor air quality.

The objective is clear: to move from fragmented approaches to a consistent, evidence-based framework that places healthy indoor air at the heart of better homes and a healthier, more sustainable built environment.

 
 

 

INTRODUCTION

The ACT-Now!™ remit is to support the drafting of a Residential Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Policy & Standard in collaboration with AECB and other stakeholders. Over the two days of Reset Connect North 2027, ACT-Now!™ will explore four key themes: 

  1. Policy & Standards 2nd March 2027 - 09:00-12:30: IAQ policy development (with a focus on residential properties) and takeaways from the Indoor Air 2026 event, held biannually in Singapore

  2. IAQ Sustainability, Resilience & Future Readiness 2nd March 2027 - 14:00-17:00 - Preparing the built environment to meet emerging IAQ challenges

  3. UK & EU IAQ Initiatives - 3rd March 2027 - 09:00-12:30: Connecting the residential IAQ landscape: mapping stakeholders, identifying gaps and building collaboration

  4. Education 3rd March 2027 - 14:00-17:00: Residential and wider IAQ education across all stakeholders and the public, including schools, higher education, CPD programmes and C-suite boards

Each theme will be addressed using the following format:

  • Panel discussion, ending with a Q&A (75 minutes total), followed by:

  • Roundtable focus session across three rotating workgroups (75 minutes total), followed by:

  • ‘Speed dating’ networking (each interaction lasting 1 minute), to facilitate knowledge and value exchange, and post-event follow-up enabled via the Reset Connect app (30 minutes total)

All panel discussions and roundtable focus sessions will be recorded and transcribed by Lorefully - capturing valuable insights and intelligence that might otherwise be lost. These outputs will be synthesised into an executive summary, highlighting key takeaways, areas of consensus and agreed next actions. This body of knowledge will provide a valuable foundation for continued collaboration and progress, informing the next stage of the ACT-Now™ initiative and future discussions at Reset Connect London.
