Why sustainability leaders should engage with UKNZCBS before the framework is fully mature
At the One Click LCA Carbon Experts Summit in London, representatives from UKGBC, AECOM, and Stantec examined how UKNZCBS performs in practice. Their shared position: formal certification is not a prerequisite for engagement. Orlando Gibbons of UKGBC encouraged project teams to apply the framework's metrics in client conversations today, even on projects that may not meet all thresholds. The industry benefits when organisations test frameworks, identify barriers, and provide feedback that improves future versions.
Pilot projects are already producing results. At Stantec, retrofit work showed that retaining existing materials delivered measurable embodied carbon reductions while avoiding new procurement entirely. At AECOM, applying UKNZCBS structured procurement strategy and contractor engagement across the delivery process. Verification, supply-chain demand signals, and the role of public procurement in accelerating adoption remain active areas of debate as regulatory rollout continues through 2026.
These themes take centre stage at Reset Connect London on June 23-24 during London Climate Action Week. One Click LCA will host a closed-door executive roundtable on carbon data as a commercial criterion across developers, contractors, and manufacturers. One Click LCA Founder and CEO Panu Pasanen will join a panel on decarbonising supply chains alongside speakers from NHS Supply Chain, Liverpool Football Club, and Sami.
